Blurb Examples: Write The Perfect Blurb

By |Last Updated: May 15th, 2021|

The blurb is the most important part of your book to get right. It’s what will convince readers to buy your book, and it needs to be compelling. In this article, I will show you how to write an attention-grabbing opening sentence, a catchy hook that will make people want more, and the perfect body text that can’t be put down once they start reading it!

A blurb is a short summary, usually in prose form, of the content or subject matter of an item. If you’ve ever walked into a bookstore looking for something to read and been unable to make up your mind without reading the back copy on every book spine, then you understand how important this part can be!

How to Write a Book Blurb

Blurb First Sentence

The first sentence of the blurb should be a strong opening for your story, but not too long. It’s meant to capture readers’ attention and make them want more. Reveal a little bit about what happens in your book so they understand it’s something that will interest them enough to buy it.

Blurb Main Body

Next is the main body of the blurb. This will be a summary of your book, and it should give readers an idea as to what they are getting into (without giving away too much).

Blurb Last Sentence

The last sentence is designed to make them want to turn that page! Do this by ending with a cliffhanger or strong statement about how powerful the story is.
