What is Limbo?

Limbo is a popular and ancient game played by passing under a low bar with the aim of not losing balance or dislodging the bar.

Limbo originated in Trinidad dating all the way back to the 1800s.

Rules of Limbo

  1. The horizontal ‘limbo bar‘ as it is called is first set at a particular height with supporting vertical bars.
  2. Contestants go under the bar while facing upwards for the entire journey.
  3. To facilitate this, contestants must bend backwards while passing under the bar.
  4. The bar must never come in contact with any part of the body.
  5. Only the feet is allowed to touch the ground.
  6. Head and neck must not be turned sideways to help go under the bar more easily.
  7. Contestants are eliminated if they fall or come into contact with the bar.
  8. This process is then continued for additional cycles while lowering the height of the limbo bar each cycle until a victor emerges.
